shadowbox series

sculpture

This series of sculptures emerges from a research project in which Jungian dream analysis served as the foundation for my process. Within a fixed ‘diorama’ form, I layered and juxtaposed 2- and 3-dimensional elements behind detailed foreground stencils that play with negative and positive space, simultaneously exposing, occluding, and alluding to meaning. As a group, they visually work as 3-dimensional comics panels, describing an interlocking narrative through a symbolic language that developed from my own dream mythology and personal history, media references, psychological systems, and actual vintage comics. As a body of work, they are my attempt to recreate a recurring dream-device: isomorphic elements of combined media working together to create an interpretive lens, able to bring into focus the latent structure of anything in the world.
