I began this piece as a way of working physically, within strict parameters and focused entirely on materials. Over three months, I meticulously excised each drop of shellac splattered on a large sheet of paper, creating an organic, amber lacework. The drops rise on illuminated glass pipettes—drilled into their places of origin, the lace now sandwiched between museum-grade plexiglass sheets—and hover above passages of light from the hand-built lightbox below. The entire piece glows from within a heap of cut black paper, referencing a substance cast off in a dream and a transition from my Shadowbox Series into new methodologies.
